Closing Credits: Four Ways to Close Out RiverRun with a Bang

April 15, 2016

You’ve partied the night away at Opening Night Gala, bumped into a celebrity or two and enjoyed independent film screenings while enjoying a local craft beer or glass of Yadkin Valley Wine. Don’t let the adventure end here, closing weekend hosts some of RiverRun’s most exciting moments and you do not want to miss out. Here’s four ways you can roll the closing credits on RiverRun International Film Festival in style. We’ll see you next year in Winston-Salem!

UNC School of the Arts Light Installation: For eight years, UNCSA has been illuminating Winston-Salem’s urban landscape with the annual Winston-Salem Light Project (WSLP). This year find this spectacle at a little-known and seldom-used tunnel under Cherry Street from the Marriott to Embassy Suites hotels in downtown Winston-Salem. "Aluvio," the 2016 project, runs from sunset until 10 p.m. nightly beginning until the evening Saturday, April 16. Selfie anyone?

"Alluvium is the geological process of erosion and the reformation of fertile land masses," said Norman Coates, founder and executive artistic director of the Light Projects "Like a river flowing forward and outward, ideas and beauty flow from the minds of artists to the public."?

Saturday Morning Cartoons: There won’t be too many other times when you’re not looked at sideways for waking up early specifically for cartoons. Oh did we mention they’re free? So kick back, sip on a cup of joe, and enjoy. If you show up in your pajamas, well…we won’t tell. (At Hanesbrands Theatre) http://riverrunfilm.com/schedules/#event-170

Light Night Shorts: Looking to enjoy a night on the town during RiverRun? Start with dinner at one of nearly 100 locally-owned restaurants in downtown Winston-Salem before heading over to the Milton Rhodes Center of the Arts to Hanesbrands Theatre where the shorts kick off at 10 p.m. and run 90 minutes long. http://riverrunfilm.com/film/late-night-shorts/

Fashion and Film: This year’s Spotlight Lineup is themed Fashion & Film. The six-film lineup covered films that not only took over the big screen, but the runway as well. Catch this program’s finale with Pretty in Pink showing on closing day at noon at a/perture Cinema.
