Former School Building is Transformed

October 16, 2019

In the fall of 2018, owners, HGM&S II, LLC purchased the original South Hill Elementary School with the vision of restoring & turning it into beautiful, state-of-the-art apartments. The school was last occupied in 2005.

One year later, Lofts on Franklin stands with 27 modern, executive apartments with features like granite countertops, hardwood floors, modern appliances, & spacious bedrooms. Each apartment has its own unique features & no two apartments are the same.

What we love most about this facility is how the unique character & features of the original school have been incorporated into the new apartments. Former items of function, like the original chalkboards, hardwood floors, classroom doors, transoms, & bookshelves have remained as built-in features.

South Hill Mayor Dean Marion says he is excited that "another historic property is being brought back to life," adding that "an investment such as this has such magnitude for our community. Not only is a historical landmark having new life breathed into it and housing needs being met, but this investment could potentially send the value of an entire historical neighborhood in an upward direction. I would like to personally thank HGM&S II, LLC for their investment in our community."

In addition to the 27 apartments, the former auditorium has been converted into a state-of-the art, 386-seat venue & the former cafeteria transformed into a restaurant.

There are plans to create a garden area for tenants to socialize & enjoy outdoor activities and the former playground will be converted into parking for residents and visitors.
