The Elmwood 1820 Bed & Breakfast Inn is a luxury lodging that has your comfort and safety in mind. An already pristine, beautiful structure, the owners of the Elmwood have incorporated even more sanitation protocols to ensure that you feel safe and secure while enjoying your visit.

"The Elmwood is a traditional B&B in that we serve breakfast," co-owner Richard Smoot says. "Which is not something Airbnb’s or other types of lodgings can’t do. We have 5 guest rooms, geared toward couples." Smoot says they have incorporated changes in their operations since the COVID pandemic started. Whereas before they served a communal breakfast to guests in the dining room, they now offer room service or breakfast served at an individual table in the dining room or on the porch at various times between 8 and 10am.

"We’ve replaced our self-serve coffee bar with room delivery of a carafe of coffee or pot of tea (or both) to the individual rooms between 6 and 10am. This has really been really popular, and it’s in addition to the espresso machines we have in each guest room." Guests have a card to fill out at their contactless check-in to specify what coffee/breakfast service they would like and when.

In addition to now offering the contactless check-in procedure, the Elmwood has increased their sanitation practices over and above their regular cleaning process. "We are self-processed ‘neat freaks,’ as our kids would say," Smoot laughs. "So we are extremely methodical with our cleaning and disinfecting protocols."

Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the house (as well as outside during warmer months). Smoot says that all staff are required to wear masks while guests are present, and frequently touched surfaces (doorknobs, light switches, railings, etc.) are sanitized multiple times as throughout the day.

Because the house itself is so large, it lends itself to social distancing easily. Smoot says that they offer over a hundred feet of porches and very gracious public rooms and guest suites, so people can keep to themselves.

To those who want to travel and visit Washington, but are hesitant because of COVID, Smoot says, "We do everything in our power to make sure [your stay] is as safe as we can possibly make it.

We give guests the opportunity to have as much or as little interaction as possible. We take sanitation and social distancing seriously. If you wanted to come and spend a lovely weekend in Washington and not see a soul, we can make that happen for you."
