New Business Spotlight: High Water Social

January 24, 2022

Are you looking for local fun for you and your friends or for the entire family? The recently reopened High Water Social has all kinds of FUN!

High Water Social has pool tables, ping pong, dart boards, board games, and video games. They also have a corn hole game outside.

Co-owner Laura Scoble says they reopened on January 12,2022. "We originally opened in early 2020, but had to close three weeks later due to the Covid mandate. But it gave us an opportunity to rethink and perfect some things."

Scoble is no stranger to owning a place that nurtures fun. She and her partner also own local favorite Backwater Jack’s Tiki Bar & Grill in Washington. She says the vibe at High Water Social is relaxed with plenty of things to do. "We have four TVs if people want to watch sports. We have a cool, modern jukebox called the ‘TouchTunes,’ a digital jukebox that lets you sit in here on your phone and play music on it."

High Water Social also has a full bar and a menu of personal sized pizzas. You can build your own or choose from a number of artisan pies. They also have a nice room upstairs that is available for rent. Scoble says it seats about thirty people. "We’ve already had parties for a local EMS group, an elementary school, and a few holiday parties." Scoble says that the space is for everybody. "Actually, the very first party here was for a five year old’s birthday party. We like to think of [High Water Social] as a community center. We are a membership club, but NOT an exclusive club. A membership simply costs a dollar." Scoble says that they are honoring memberships bought when they first opened in 2020 for this year.

High Water Social will be hosting special events as well. They have already started having dart tournaments, and as the weather warms up, will have live music outside. They have a music festival scheduled for April 8th and 9th featuring The Pink Slips from Wilmington and local favorites, Bootleg Revival. They’re also planning to have a regular dance night.

Scoble says that she has also talked to a young local pastor about possibly having some religious services on the property. "That way they could actually have baptisms in the river. We’ve also discussed maybe on a Sunday night or a Monday night, having a youth night (no adults), so kids can learn to talk to one another again instead of being on their phones. I don’t want this to be a ‘hang in the parking’ lot place; I want them to come in and play games. And then maybe have a moment of ministry for them."

High Water Social is poised to be a hub of fun and entertainment for all ages. It is located at 980 US-17 Business in Washington. For more information or for their hours, call 252-940-7529.
