Angi’s Mexican Kitchen in downtown Washington has quickly become a favorite eatery for locals and visitors alike. Owner Sergio Higuera Dominguez prides Angi’s on freshness, authenticity, and the fact that the restaurant is family owned and operated.
Sergio grew up here in Washington and has always had a love for cooking and the local food scene. Beginning his culinary journey around age thirteen while helping his mom in the kitchen, He says that he’s always had restaurant jobs throughout high school and college, from dishwasher to server to cook. With parents originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, it was a natural fit for him to start Angi’s 2 years ago.
Sergio feels Angi’s fills a niche in Washington. He says other Mexican restaurants in town are authentic in their style of cooking, but Angi’s concentrates on a certain genre of Mexican cuisine. "Our food is more like street food and what you would find in households." Serving specialties like ceviche, sopes, and tacos de papa, Sergio and his family will make you feel as though you are truly dining in a Mexican home.
"We treat everyone like they’re family. We want people to come in and eat with us just like we would have them eat with us in our home."
Sergio says the community has been really supportive and appreciative of the family-owned business. "People in town have been very supportive by coming in to eat and also getting takeout, especially during a time that was fragile for locally owned businesses. Our customers are very comfortable here; it almost feels like we’ve been in business for ten years or more."
His parents as well as two of his three siblings work at Angi’s as well. Prior to opening Angi’s, Sergio worked at Rachel K’s Bakery in town and says he learned a lot from that experience.
"It’s great to see local businesses supporting local businesses. That’s not something that you see in every town. Washington is a true community in that respect."
Located at 126 W. Main Street, Angi’s Mexican Kitchen is open Monday – Friday 11am-8pm and Saturday 11am-4pm.
