The Pamlico Bed & Breakfast has been a charming historic lodging in Washington for years. But when the pandemic hit in 2020, a lot of businesses shut down. Because no one was traveling, there was no business for lodgings. So the Pamlico House closed. In the last few years owner Virginia Finnerty took the opportunity of closure to make renovations on the property.
When asked if the Pamlico House will be a true bed and (full) breakfast, Finnerty says she is figuring that out. "I wanted to be a bed & continental breakfast, but I keep getting encouragement from past guests to do the full breakfast."
When she closed in 2020, Finnerty had thought about retirement anyway, but realized that just wasn’t for her. "I need to do something productive. Something that is..more satisfying." Finnerty has a background in owning and running lodgings. Before moving to Washington more than twelve years ago, she owned a bed and breakfast in Florida. When she bought the Pamlico House, she poured all of her expertise and energy into making it an exceptional lodging experience for visitors to Washington.
Now working part-time for locally-owned Elite Trucking, Finnerty is staying busy but has the flexibility to run the bed and breakfast.
The renovations that have been made on the property include a pool in the back for guests and a stunning new decor that Finnerty describes as ‘shabby chic.’ The new look is bright and open. Think luxurious, clean, and casual at the same time. "I love blue and white. I am a lot more informal than other B&B’s. It’s a little more whimsical. I like a more relaxed style." With the new blue and white decor, it’s hard not to see the influence of being in a river town and near the water. A perfect combination for visitors staying in Washington.
