Washington has no shortage of great shops in town, and Russell’s Clothing is one of the oldest and best.
Russell Smith started the store thirty-nine years ago when he bought an existing shop and decided to carry men’s clothing for all occasions. It has been an institution of men’s fine suits, sportswear, tuxedo rentals, ties, accessories, and much more.
Smith brought Ronda Lyons on board sixteen years ago with a line of baby gifts and ladies’ jewelry and accessories. That line has grown into over seventy different brands of ladies’ apparel and several lines of jewelry.
"The women’s apparel has been an integral part of the business," says Smith.
Lyons’ background was in the dental field, but after meeting her husband, moving here, and being a stay at home mom for a while, she decided to go in another direction.
"I helped a friend who owned a jewelry store. Then I worked for a monogramming shop. Then Russell brought me in, we made a plan, and it took off from there."
Lyons bought the business from Smith two and a half years ago. They have some exciting sales and events coming up.
"During the holidays, we really try to expand our customer service, which is what our whole business is based on," Lyons explains. "We try to offer a little something extra to our customers. We are having a Julie Vos trunk sale starting October 27th. It is a high-end jewelry line that we carry year round. I will be showcasing exclusive pieces that I don’t normally carry. Special orders can be made, and some of the pieces will be available at the store."
Russell’s will be open late Thursday for the trunk sale, 10am to 7pm, and 10am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday. "We’re going to be offering discounts on the jewelry line, and a 15% discount on any single ladies’ clothing item for the fall season." Lyons says they’ll also register anyone who buys a Julie Vos piece into a drawing to win a $275 Julie Vos piece of jewelry.
The store will be open for Jingle Mingle on December 8th and will have special offers and events throughout the holiday season.
Smith also adds that they have an accessible back door which makes parking easier. "We also offer alterations and free signature gift wrapping on any purchase. You can buy a pair of socks, and we’ll wrap them for free."
Smith says that the new Barbour line includes coats and scarves for men and women. "We even have dog toys and overnight bags. It’s a really great brand."
Lyons says she wants everyone to feel welcome. "I try to have something for all ages, all sizes, and all price points. Russell’s has something for everyone."
