New Restuarant Spotlight – Blu: Farm to Table

September 19, 2022

When Vickie Desourdy opened her store, Lane Blu, a specialty kitchen boutique, two years ago, she had a vision for opening a farm to table restaurant that would encourage people to try new foods as well as renew the art of socializing over food and drink. Her dream came true in July of 2022 when she opened Blu: Farm to Table on Main Street.

Blu is not just a restaurant, but a dining experience offering seasonal, globally inspired cuisine from local and responsibly sourced ingredients. Desourdy, a U.S. Army veteran, has traveled the world extensively, and says the concept of the restaurant came from her love of food. "I have a passion for cooking and sharing that with other people. I’ve always loved entertaining, and I’ve had the opportunity to experience a lot of different kinds of food and food cultures."

She feels it’s important for people to connect at the table together. "I think people have gotten away from it. "It’s meaningful for people to get together and socialize over food. Good food. Meals that are healthy and made from scratch."

When asked why it’s so vital to source close to home, Desourdy says, "I want to support the local community. I think chain restaurants have really hurt farmers and fishermen. Being able to give them that business, that income, helps ensure that they’ll be able to keep going for generations to come."

Desourdy believes the quality of product [sourcing local] is much better. "It’s fresh. It’s not processed, or frozen. We don’t freeze anything here, with the exception of some items we get in the summer that we may use in soups in the winter."

The menu at Blu is clean-eating and multifaceted. "The menu changes almost daily." She says her plans for the future include teaching classes. "I’d like to show people how to source locally and cook healthy food for themselves at home."

Desourdy encourages folks to come and experience Blu. There’s even a rooftop dining area with a river view. "I want people to come here and feel like they’re part of our family. That’s why we’ve created this community table. Blu is a place to dine with old friends, and meet new ones, while enjoying local dishes with an international flare and memorable cocktails in a timeless, sophisticated, and timeless setting."

Blu: Farm to Table is located at 129 East Main Street. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 11-2; 5-9pm. Friday & Saturday 11-2: 5-10pm; Sunday brunch is served 10am-2pm.
