Lodging Spotlight: The ELL Hotel & The Ell Hotel on Main

August 25, 2022

Welcome to the newest lodgings in Washington, The Ell Hotel and The Ell Hotel on Main. When owner Ellen Brabo decided to open a bed and bath, she wasn’t sure where it was going to be. A U.S. Army veteran, she has traveled all over the world, but when a friend sent her a picture of the Historic Bowers-Tripp house in Washington, she HAD to come see it for herself. "Literally the first time I came to Washington was to tour the house. It was a Sunday afternoon. My parents and I had brunch at Parley’s Sip & Steam, looked at the house, and I made an offer the next morning."

The ELL Hotel (located at 1040 N. Market St), officially opened June 18th, but has been taking reservations since December. Offering four rooms with private baths, it offers a different experience than other lodgings. Brabo says there’s not only the interesting history of the house, but a really fun vibe for guests. "My favorite is the billiards room. We noticed that a lot of things in town close around 10pm, and we wanted to give guests a place where they could come back to and socialize if they so choose. So we have a billiards room, a minibar that our guests can shop, games, the beautiful front porch, and a fire pit out back."

The ELL Hotel is pet-friendly and kid-friendly. They even have two pack & play sets for guests to use.

Brabo says that they are also available for events. "We host weddings, Christmas parties, team-building retreats, birthday parties. If you’re looking for an event venue, by all means, come check us out."

All of the rooms do have their own private bath.

The ELL Hotel doesn’t use single use soaps or shampoos. They have SimpleHuman products in dispensers because they’re pure and better for the environment. "We have a partnership with a friend’s homemade lotion company. She makes lotions for us, and every guest gets one to take with them. They have minimal ingredients, being mindful of sensitive skin." Guests are welcomed at their arrival with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies from a local bakery. "We have fresh flowers in every room that are sourced from Sun, Moon, & Blooms right here in Washington. We try to incorporate relationships with as many locally owned businesses as possible."

All of the artwork in the hotel comes from River Walk Gallery, a local, co-op artist owned gallery. All the artwork is for sale. "Except the beautiful sunflower painting upstairs," Brabo laughs, "That one is mine."

She says they are a bed and bath right now because they want to ensure guest services are done right before incorporating breakfast. However, they will be adding breakfast to the hotel’s amenities soon.

Brabo says they are opening a second location September 1st. "It is right downtown, upstairs, on Main Street. It’s four apartments, with private parking, two one-bedroom, one-bathroom; an executive suite; and a two-bedroom two-bathroom unit."

The new lodgings will be called The Ell Hotel on Main. She says she’s so excited to offer more options for long term stays. "With a kitchen, but also, right downtown. It will be a different experience, and the downtown locations will not be pet-friendly. But they will still be kid-friendly, and a great option for staying right downtown."

The Ell Hotel is available for overnight stays by going to https://www.theellhotel.com/, and The Ell Hotel on Main will be available for booking online starting September 1st.
