Immerse Yourself in the Viking Experience Festival in Granville March 26 – 27

March 4, 2022

The Viking Experience is hosting a Festival at the beautiful grounds of the Granville Expo Center March 26-27 in Oxford, NC. The event is unique in that it features over 30 cast members in character who spend the weekend interacting with festival-goers as they experience "life as a Viking."

The festival will include something for the whole family. From the "Fairy Experience," for those that fairy young at heart to the "Vikings in Training" program where children and adults can learn to (safely) fight like a Viking, to the "Dinner Theater" celebrating the wedding ceremony of the Queen’s daughter.

However, you don’t need to have "Viking" heritage to visit or enjoy the festival explains Angela Reid, the director of The Viking Experience. "Historically Vikings were known to adopt others into their tribes," Reid says. "Some of our festival goers can trace their ancestry back to the Viking culture, but others simply either have an interest in Viking lore, or simply just want to have a fun day with their family."

This wonderful event also includes a kid’s play area, food and craft vendors, acrobats, dancers, festival music, a "fight group" that will have ongoing combatants in battle, educators and more. The event is truly interactive, even down to the "quest" activity where festival goers can go on a quest for hidden clues. This is truly a weekend the whole family will remember.

In addition to the open "cast" area, there will be "special event" sections where additional experiences are presented. These include:

The Fairy Experience

In this hour long fairy fantastic experience, each child will be part of a winging ceremony and receive their beginner fairy wings. They can also make a magical wand to keep and mix magical fairy dust in a keepsake bottle that they can wear as a necklace.

Kids Play Area

Kids 8 and under are free! And we will have a kids area with games, crafts and importantly FAIRIES!! After becoming an official fairy during the VIP Fairy Experience don’t forget to stop by The Long Forgotten forest to see what treasures await you! Here you can visit with Acorn, Ellowee and Morning Glory, and browse through trinkets galore made by the fairies. Maybe even be called to adopt your own buzzle! Stay a while and have story time with Morning Glory or pictures with Acorn and Ellowee. These fairies can’t wait to meet you!

Vikings in Training

Hey kids!! Learn to fight like a Viking! Train with experienced warriors while learning swordsmanship and Viking tactics. This one-hour long class will teach basic footwork, striking drill drills, and a series of simple movements common across most weapons. They will also be doing a shield craft, have refreshments, and participants will receive a printed photo.

The Fight Pass

Do you enjoy a lively battle, ax throwing, and solving clues? Then purchase the Fight Pass.
Choose from a variety foam Viking weapons, learn to fight from a master, challenge a warrior or even one of you own friends and family! Challenge yourself and your friends to hit the bullseye at axe throwing.

Wedding Inheritance – Dinner Theater

A wedding between a Queen’s daughter and a Jarl’s son is no ordinary event. A ceremony for this momentous occasion is planned with all the games and festivities tradition, and the betrothed’s parents, demand. However, this wedding is not all that it seems; beneath the surface of these two joining their lives bubbles a secret that may tear the lovers apart. Inheritance is a complex system of who is owed what, made more so by skeletons that refuse to remain in the closet.

This wonderful event is hosted by The Viking Experience NC, an historically inspired entertainment group, providing an immersive experience through interaction characters and camps. The North Carolina experience will be held at the Granville County Expo & Convention Center located at 4185 US-15, Oxford, NC 27565. The festival will be open on Saturday, March 26th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, March 27th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
