CLARKSVILLE: More time on the water

March 2, 2022

Rain or shine, there’s always something to entertain in Clarksville. Known as Virginia’s only lakeside town, this charming community is home to Virginia’s largest lake, Kerr Lake, which spans 50,000 acres and has 850 miles of pristine shoreline. Two other lakes, Lake Gaston and Lake Gordon, along with the designated scenic blueway Meherrin River, combine to offer a broad range of water-loving outdoor recreation just perfect for families, couples and outdoorsmen.

Best of all? You don’t even need your own boat. Clarksville’s got you covered with a range of easy rental choices for kayaks, canoes, even massive "party barges" known as pontoon boats. Just stop by clarksvilleboats.com/rentals online or in person and you’ll be living the lake life in no time.

And, should you ever tire of all that fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and scenic driving, simply head downtown for a chance to browse the most eclectic collection of shops any visitor could ask for. History buffs won’t want to miss a tour of historic Prestwould Plantation, a 1797 plantation that survives as the most intact and best-documented plantation in Southside Virginia, and happens to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
