Washington Audio Tours: Experience the East Side Historic District

January 31, 2022

We are excited to announce that Washington now has self-guided audio tours that let you experience Washington on your own terms – while walking, cycling, or driving. Currently, there are five tours available: East Side Historic District, West Side Historic District, African-American History, the Historic Port of Washington, and Washington Haunts Ghost Walk.

This article is the first in a series that will highlight each tour. Here is a sneak peak of the East Side Historic Tour.

The East Side audio tour highlights the beautiful architecture of some of Washington’s most historic and prominent buildings. This tour has 21 ‘stops’ (buildings/sites) including the Historic Turnage Theatre, the original Bank of Washington, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and many more.

The stops on this tour range from circa 1750 to 1998. Some of the architectural styles included are Greek Revival, Federal, Queen Anne, 20th Century Commercial and others. The East Side Historic District (as well as many of the stops on the tour) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The tours are easy self-guided audio tours of Washington’s historic districts with stories about its people, treasures and important places in American history. As co-creator Scott Campbell says, "People have really discovered Washington in significant numbers in the last few years, and this is a really good, easy way to connect to a town that they are visiting. It just weaves the fabric all together and makes them feel like they’re part of the story, because they are."

To get started, either scan the QR code with your smart device or go to https://washingtonncaudiotours.com and hit the ‘Let’s Go’ button and follow the prompts. Each tour is $7.25 and is good for ten days. Don’t forget to leave a Google review afterwards!
