There are tons of activities to do in Washington that will cost you little or no money.
If you’re looking something free for the kiddos, Washington has several parks in town that have state of the art playground equipment. Havens’ Gardens is a playground that sits on the beautiful Pamlico River, with equipment for all children, including those with special needs. The park also has covered picnic tables, and restrooms open in the in season for your convenience. A pier awaits for walking above the water; crabbing and fishing is allowed around the water’s edge as well (with NC license if appropriate).
The Washington waterfront parkway and boardwalk is another awesome option for free views of the river that are family friendly and accessible to everyone. You can spot turtles, fish, and ducks. It is a free nature show that will delight kids and adults alike.
If you’re looking for a day out with Fido, the off-leash dog park on Brown Street is a great option. Your fur baby canine can run to their heart’s content while meeting other pups in the park.
Looking to get out on the water, and you don’t have a boat? Pamlico Boat Rentals at Moss Landing Marina can hook you up with a pontoon or deck boat in a matter of minutes.
For a more inexpensive trip on the water, Inner Banks Outfitters can rent you kayaks or paddle boards at a small cost. River Vibes, located in downtown Washington, rents those as well.
Another option for cruising on the water is the North Carolina Estuarium‘s River Roving boat tours (seasonal). The trip is free, but make your reservations early, because it fills up fast. The Estuarium itself is a great deal as well, for five dollars per adult/three per child, you can spend as much time as you like in this educational environmental showcase.
If you are looking for the cheapest eats in town, head to Bill’s Hot Dogs. Their daily special is two dogs, a drink, a bag of chips all for around $4. Bill’s has been serving hot dogs with their signature white chili since 1928.
Another really good deal in town is the daily lunch special at Down on Mainstreet. You can get a sandwich/entree with a side for around $7 – And that includes your tea!. Washington Crab & Seafood Shack has a free kids’ menu (12 and under) on Mondays.
If you want to do a date night, and think you can’t afford something special, you really can in Washington!
