A handful of restaurants in Washington have an amazing river view, but Captain Cooks at 1 Harding Square has THE view on the Pamlico.
Owner Todd Rodzen says that view plus the evolving menu and fun atmosphere keeps people coming back. "We have music on the patio when it’s warm (including karaoke and open mic night). On colder evenings, we have dinner music inside." The ‘dinner music’ includes artists like Yulia Price, classical violinist, who will be playing on February 13th, in celebration for Valentine’s Day.
Rodzen says that the menu will be expanding, but right now, lunch includes burgers, wraps, and appetizers, like the beef loaded nachos and loaded potato skins. The dinner menu includes ribeye beef tips, seared scallops, and steamed shrimp. They are quickly becoming known for their creamy seafood bisque, which is available by the cup, pint, or quart. Captain Cooks also does take out, curbside pickup and delivery within Washington city limits as well.
Want to watch the big game? With big screens in the bar area and on the patio, you can enjoy a beer and chicken wings safely, while cheering on your favorite teams.
Rodzen says that since opening last July (2020) business has been steady, despite the pandemic. "We are operating at 50% capacity. We have things well spaced out, and all of our servers wear masks."
Captain Cooks has also hosted a ‘Friendsgiving’ for the last two years on Thanksgiving. An event that is free and open to the community, it is a pot-luck type of meal that really brings people together. "The people and town have been so supportive," Rodzen says. "I always want to give back [to the community]."
Captain Cooks is open seven days a week, 11am-9pm.
