A Place to Park Yourself

There are more than 20 public parks in Rockingham County North Carolina as well as two North Carolina State Parks: Mayo River State Park and Haw River State Park. Parks in Rockingham County North Carolina offer a variety of activities for the whole family from playgrounds, walking trails, a disc golf course, tennis courts, championship baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, volleyball courts, paddle boating and picnic/event facilities.

Our Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center is one of only three in the state where hundreds of youth can come and "learn by doing."

Mayo River State Park

The Mayo River State Park consists of over 2,200 linear acres along the serene Mayo River corridor near Mayodan in western Rockingham County.

The park’s "hub" facility, Mayo Mountain Access offers a visitor contact station, picnic pavilion, 1.8-mile and .5-mile hiking trails, restrooms, catch and release fishing pond, various special events and educational programs throughout the year. The park also contains unique historic structures that were designed by internationally renowned architect Antonin Raymond.

Haw River State Park

The Haw River State Park traverses the picturesque Haw River corridor in Rockingham and Guilford Counties. The park’s Summit Educational Center is located on about 300 acres of beautiful Piedmont forest, fields, wetlands and uplands at the headwaters of the Haw River. The Summit includes amenities for lodging, meeting, recreational, and special programming for overnight and day use groups . While this state park is in the early stages of development, the Summit Educational Center was the first major acquisition.
