Uniquely Carolina Dining that’s also Uniquely Delicious

February 11, 2020

Downtown Oxford is certainly becoming a focus of attention. With new shops, a unique wedding and event venue, and an ever growing list of festivals, the area of Main and Hillsboro Streets are becoming the hub of the community. Helping to drive this renaissance is the emergence of a number of restaurants and eateries.

Of particular value is the diversity of the establishments. From a Veteran woman-owned brewery to an upscale restaurant fulfilling the dream of a retired police officer (and the epicurean dreams of Oxford foodies), to an emerging bakery – Oxford offers an assortment not normally found in a community its size.

Adding to the allure is the casual "walkability" of the area that makes Downtown Oxford more of a neighborhood than a commercial district. With such an assortment, and inviting atmosphere, it’s not surprising diners are stopping in as they pass through town, making easy plans to pop-up from the Triangle, or simply strolling "downtown" from their homes. This melding of visitors and residents further adds to the charm of the area.

So come join us – relax, grab a bite to eat – and experience what makes Granville County’s restaurant scene "Uniquely Carolina"….and "Uniquely Delicious."

Uptown 101
Uptown 101 is an elegantly designed restaurant located in Historic Oxford. The building has been fully renovated, and the restaurant has a great decor. For lunch, there are soups, salads, sandwiches, and appetizers on the menu. For dinner, entrees consist of ribeye steaks, grilled salmon, shrimp & grits, alfredo, and porterhouse pork chops. And, at the bar, customers can enjoy a beer, a glass of wine, or a cocktail.

Tobacco Wood Brewing Company
Tobacco Wood is casual and friendly with an atmosphere much like a public house in England. Consequently, Tobacco Wood is less a bar and more of a gathering place. It is not unusual to see children playing oversized Connect Four and other board games while their parents finish their meal and have a casual glass of beer. In fact, the LittleJohn Oxford Farmers’ Market takes up residency there when the weather requires. Serving its signature brews along with some of the best BBQ in the area, Tobacco Wood is a community favorite.

Main St. Oasis
Main St Oasis is a family style, fine dining restaurant at an affordable price. The restaurant also includes a nice bar as well as a friendly staff. Dinners are highlighted by an array of steaks and seafood including sushi-grade tuna, mahi-mahi, salmon, and shrimp seasoned and grilled to perfection over live charcoal. Combining fine food and a relaxing place to gather with friends, Main St. Oasis is truly a destination to forget your worries of the day and celebrate life’s gifts. They certainly deliver on their mission to "bring together a passion for excellence while striving for the best experience possible for our guests."

Strong Arm Baking
As Julia Blaine says, "Oxford is a smallish place, but it’s a place that’s huge on love, farms and good food." That is one of the reasons she and her husband Thomas have created Strong Arm Baking. From pastries, pies, cakes, bread, cookies, and fixed menu dinner parties – and yes, the best croissants in the South, Strong Arm has grown from a member of the "pop-up" community to being a mainstay each week in the Downtown Oxford area. Now Julia and Thomas have their own brick & mortar establishment.
