Summer is cooling off and Fall will soon be arriving in full color, but there is still plenty of time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors in Stokes County, NC. Take advantage of the remaining warm days in September by setting your destination on the mountains of Hanging Rock State Park and 56 miles of the Dan River to be experienced here.
Chase one of five waterfalls at Hanging Rock State Park, trails to the falls are easy to moderate and less than a mile round trip. Find delight in standing behind Window Falls as the cool spring fed water streams down from above to the ground. Lower Cascades is outside of the park gate on Hall Road and includes a shallow wading area perfect for cooling off or getting closer to the waterfall. Upper Cascades includes an observation deck and steps down to the falls. Don’t miss Hidden Falls or Tory’s Den and Waterfall for the complete experience.
Adventures on the Dan River continue in September by canoe, kayak, or paddle board or venture over to the fishing access at Jessup Mill in Westfield for a little river catch. The Jessup Mill section of the Dan River is accessible from this input and allows adventure seekers to experience Class 2 and 3 rapids. Stokes County is home to the only Class 3 rapids along the basin.
